Department: Wound Care

Position Description: Under limited direction, have authority, responsibility and accountability for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of wound and ostomy throughout the health complex system.


  • Consults on special patient cases where a need for specialized wound care and instruction has been identified
  • Establishes a treatment plan for patients and their families to follow
  • Administers medications specific to wound care
  • Notes and carries out physician orders
  • Takes emergency actions as required
  • Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition to appropriate personnel
  • Evaluates the patient’s/family’s response to care and makes appropriate adjustments as needed
  • Serves as a resource person for medical and hospital staff regarding wound care
  • Collaborates on discharge needs and the readiness of a patient’s discharge with the medical team



  • Associate Degree Nurse who is actively enrolled in BSN program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required:
  • Licensed by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing.
  • Board Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse, Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse, or Certified Ostomy Continence Nurse certifications preferred.
  • BLS (American Heart Association) upon hire
  • Two (2) years experience in Nursing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have current knowledge of nursing role in wound-ostomy care.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
